3.5 Star Rating

The 467 guestrooms are located in the original five-story building opened in 1982 (room access via external corridors), and in a nine-story tower extension built in the mid-1990s. Many rooms in the original building overlook the gardens, and have their own patios. Other rooms have city views. Facilities include high-speed Internet access (surcharge), satellite TVs, safes, work desks, and bottled water. Natural daylight streams through a glass ceiling into the cool, white-marbled lobby, with brass chandeliers hanging to just above head height. A huge mural stretches the length of the reception area, its shades of deep-blue picked up in the cushions of the rattan easy chairs. Clientele consists of business and leisure travelers. The hotel is built around a traditional water garden, with a courtyard, fountains, and carved stone lions. Diverse dining options include French and Cantonese. Recreational facilities include a 30-foot pool, fitness center, and traditional acupuncture and massage. A 24-hour business center provides translation services and Internet access (surcharges). Concierge tip: Silk Alley, two blocks away, offers a lot more than silk. Shoppers can haggle over leather goods, shoes, watches, trinkets, and souvenirs. Four restaurants and lounges provide diverse dining options, including French, Chinese, international fare, and an English-style pub. A 24-hour business center offers interpreter services, Internet access, faxing, and photocopying.

Recreational facilities include a 30-foot pool bathed in natural light, a well-equipped fitness room, and traditional acupuncture and massage. Justine's - The first French restaurant to open in Beijing, in 1982, continues to serve authentic Gallic fare, and offers a good selection of wines. Dark woods, chandeliers, ceiling drapes, plush seating, and candle-lit tables create an opulent setting, with a classical harpist playing most evenings. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The Cafe - Overlooking the garden, with Spanish-influenced wall frescos and brass chandeliers evoking a rustic atmosphere. Weather permitting, the restaurant opens into a beer garden. International fare and local specialties. Open from early morning until late evening.

Four Seasons - A floral carpet, lacquerware, and red table lanterns set the tone of this traditional-style restaurant, which overlooks the garden. Cantonese and Szechuan cuisine predominate. Open from midmorning
